Libor Mrňa from the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences received the 2024 Award of the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic

Doc. RNDr. Libor Mrňa, Ph.D., from the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences, one of the partners of the LasApp project, received the 2024 Award of the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic on November 25, 2025, at the Bethlehem Chapel in Prague.

He received the award for co-authoring the article “Cyclic low-thermal aging of dissimilar austenitic steel welds used in nuclear power plants,” which was published in MM Science Journal in December 2024.

The study deals with the welding of austenitic steels used in nuclear power engineering and monitors, among other things, the behavior of welds created using the TIG method. As part of the LasApp project, a new method called hybrid welding WoGaWe is being developed, which could potentially replace TIG arc welding when welding components for nuclear power plants.
